Καλό είναι χρήστο, ισως απλά να τονίσουμε την νομιμότητα.

το "They gained no unfair advantage whatsoever" δεν υποδηλώνει νομιμότητα αλλά μη-όφελος!

The drivers that Pit-In during 28th Lap were legitimate and fair by all means and there was not a slightest thought of breaching any rule.

Κάτι τέτοιο που να δηλώνει αθωώτητα και όχι οτι δεν κέρδισα σαν ένοχος. ;)

Event 11 disqualifications appeal

Post by Metalass » Fri Dec 11, 2009 1:22 pm

το final mail που έστειλα, είμαι περίεργος τι θα απαντήσουν...

Dear OLFSL Staff,

apparently both of our drivers B. Chalaris and G. Alamaras have been disqualified due to a pitstop in the last lap. As you allready have pointed out in your announcement, in the reverse layout of the track the start/finish line is placed just before the actual "stopping areas" begin. As you can see in the screenshot attached, the driver is IN the pit lane in lap 28.

The rule regarding piting in the last lap is used to prevent drivers from finishing in the pitlane and gaining an unfair advantage by leaving out the outlap. In this case, the rule would apply for drivers piting at the end of lap 29. We would like to indicate that this is kind of a gray area in the rules and that our drivers have been harshly penalised for a legitimate pit-in which was of no advantage to them and without the slightest intention of breaking any rule. Our drivers did not finish the race in the pits. They still did a normal outlap and finished the race after completing a full lap.

on a side note, in a similar "gray zone case" earlier this season where "must pit" was mistakenly deactivated on the server, some of the 3id Drivers were downgraded one position for not pitting at all in a mandatory pitstop race, thus gaining a huge advantage over the rest of the grid. On comparison of these two decisions it becomes apparent that our punishment is disproportionate to prior punishments.

On behalf of the Hellenic Racing Team i am kindly asking you to consider this and review your decision. We are appealing to your common sense as the outcome of the drivers championship depends on this.

With kind regards

Christos Panoulas
Hellenic Racing Team

Hi Christos,

Firstly, we greatly appreciate the calm and sensible manner in which you have raised this issue to us.

As for the penalties, we did deliberate this once the issue was raised by the insim application which is used to track mandatory pit stops. There are two sides to this, as there are to every story. There is, of course, your side which you have eloquently explained in your email. There is also the other side of the story for the people who did stop between the correct laps, even taking into consideration the position of the start/finish line. For them, allowing your pit stops on the 29th lap to count would also be unfair.

We did check a previous event where an invalid pit stop was penalised by the racer in question being disqualified. Now that you have brought that other situation to mind, I confirm that we will have to investigate and get back to you as we will need to check. I don't remember the details off the top of my head, so some investigation is required.

For now, please accept this as confirmation that your appeal is being investigated and we will look to issue a decision before the start of the next event.

Thanks
Tim

Hi racers,

Following on from the 4 racers who were disqualified in Pool 1 of Event 11, the penalty was challenged. As a result of this, the disqualification has been reversed and instead a penalty of dropping the points to the racer in the place behind has been adopted. This was done because it was found that the confusion came from a grey area in the OLFSL Rules.

The full decision is long and complicated, so I won't publish it here, however it will be made available if anyone wishes to review it.

In summary, the Rules page will be changed to clarify when the lap number is counted for the purpose of the "don't stop on the last lap of the race" rule.

I advise everyone to look at and familiarise themselves with this amendment.

Thanks
Tim
